  1. I'm not fooled by the advertising on the packages after having taken lots of Chemistry classes. I remember 'making' so many popular flavorings in a test tube or Petri dish. I read labels and don't use hardly any processed foods - save for things like canned tomatoes, etc.
Question on another subject: LAMY Safari . . . I read about cleansing it before inserting the cartridge only after I'd inserted it; now I'm noticing lots of skipping (missed pen-strokes on the paper). Should I plow on through? Or, should I sacrifice this cartridge and do the flushing with soapy water?

  2. I also have a chemistry background. You can remove the cartridge and set it aside with the opening pointed up and then use the converter to flush the pen. I would just add one drop of liquid detergent to about a cup of water. After the pen is has been flushed several times, flush again with plain water. Remove the converter and then you might want to shake it like an old fashion thermometer to get most of the water out. I usually put mine nib down on a tissue in an empty cup. Once it's rather dry, you can re-insert the cartridge. See how this works. I've never had any of my LAMY skip. You might also want to practice on some different kinds of papers. If the pen doesn't want to start, you can try shaking it straight down at a paper towel.

  3. Thanks Roger. I'll go through that process. I found the paper and notebooks you suggested on amazon but haven't ordered them yet. The notebook I'm using doesn't have nice fountain pen quality paper - the ink leaks through the page. So, I'm in learning mode and will forge ahead.
Another subject again: I have some questions about my Mac. Would you be willing to give some advice by email: marypatsherman@gmail.com?
