In light of the recent discovery in Munich of thousands of pieces of art stolen by the Nazis, I watched this documentary from 2006 entitled "The Rape of Europa." This documentary based on Lynn Nicholas' The Rape of Europa: The Fate of Europe's Treasures in the Third Reich and the Second World War is a must see. It's available on Netflix. The title of the book is taken from Titian's famous painting.
Just finished watching "The Rape of Europa," which is excellent. I gave it five stars. More importantly, from the standpoint of an American, we need to know what damage we are responsible for, as well as that of the Germans and Russians. We badly damaged European buildings, monuments, cities that can never be restored to their previous grandeur. I still have a brick in my stomach from watching the film.
