I went the other night to SF to see the Idan
Raichel Project. Idan Raichel is an Israeli musician who puts on a fabulous show. H
is band, blends influences from world music, Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jewish traditions, and sounds from Ethiopia and the Middle East. Here's a clip from a 2010 appearance in NYC.
Thanks for this post; I'd not heard of him or his Project before. But, now I've seen the clip and read a little about him and his music - on wikipedia - I'll be on the lookout for his music and adventures. He certainly has a blend of interesting style. I remember, years ago, being talked into going to a concert by Ladysmith Black Mambazo, not being familiar with their work at all. I loved the concert, at Marin Memorial Veterans' Auditorium, next to FLW's Civic Center, and have been enthralled with Zulu music since then. Idan Raichel seems to bring so many distinctive kinds of music - maybe the World could be a lot more united through music instead of politics and war. Thanks again for the post.
